Overview

The Support to the Development of the Islamic Higher Education (IHE) in Indonesia project involves four State Institutes of Islamic Studies (IAIN), namely IAIN Sumatera Utara (Medan, North Sumatera), IAIN Raden Fatah (Palembang, South Sumatera), IAIN Walisongo (Semarang, Central Java) and IAIN Mataram (Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara . It specifically aims at improving the access and quality of IHE Institutions through upgrading and equipping of facilities and enhancing the curriculum and training of the teaching staff of the four IAINs.

The project is aligned with the IDB Vision 1440H and the Bank’s Comprehensive Human Development and Poverty Reduction Strategy (CHDPRS). The project is part of the Education and Skills Development Pillar of the Member Country Partnership Strategy (MCPS) (2011-2015) for Indonesia, and contributes to the improvement of access and quality of Higher Education Institutions through upgrading of structures and equipment, as well as curriculum and skills development. It is also consistent with the Indonesia Medium Term Development Plan 2010-2014, of which the 7th pillar aims at enhancing the quality of human resources, particularly in science and technology, in order to increase productivity.

The project improves the access to the institutes by constructing new buildings and support infrastructure, such as roads, drainage, electricity connectivity, etc. It also supports the quality and relevance of the IAINs through activities, such as curriculum development, training programs and the acquisition of necessary and appropriate equipment to improve the quality of courses.

The Quality Improvement of Padjadjaran University Project

The project aims to support the Educational Sector Strategy of the Government of Indonesia to develop the national competitiveness through the increasing the intellectual and welfare level of the community. It will specifically improve the quality of the Padjadjaran University (Unpad) graduates by improving the facilities for supporting three kinds of services namely; education, research and community service activities.

Sanimas-Community Based Sanitation Project

The project aims to provide basic sanitation services that will improve health and livelihood of communities and to increase the public awareness about Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH). The Community Driven Sanitation will help addressing the health issues induced by open defecation and poor sanitation by providing community based infrastructure for sanitation in 13 provinces with a demand responsive approach.

The Project will facilitate the development and growth of industrial and commercial sectors, particularly small and medium enterprises (SMEs), essential for creation of new employment opportunities in the country.
